Natthanan Kunnamas

Natthanan Kunnamas has been trained in European Studies for over 20 years and taught for over 14 years in over six modules related to the EU. She received BA in International Affairs and German Language with 1st Class Honours from Thammasat University, with highest GPAX (Summa Cum Laude) in 1996. She won Leeds-ASEM Chevening Scholarship to study MA European Politics (EU Public Policy) at University of Leeds, UK and further won Thai government’s funding for doctoral degree at the same place. Nowadays, Natthanan is a full-time professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Chulalongkorn University. She is also the Director for the Interdisciplinary Department for European Studies overseeing MA and PhD in European Studies. She also editors of Journal of European Studies and Newsletter of European Studies. Natthanan is also enrolled in Certificate on Comparative Regionalisms from American University, USA and Central European University, Hungary in 2012. In 2016, Natthanan was awarded the European Union Jean Monnet Chair Professorship, the first Thai and ASEAN to be titled this honourable professorship. Her recent works for example including studies and researches on political and economic transformations of Eastern European countries, particularly the Former Yugoslavian countries, and “Normative Power Europe” as part of the research project hosted by Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, Global Europe Centre, Centre, School of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent, Canterbury.

Jean Mornet Chair

A Jean Monnet Chair is a teaching post with a specialisation in European Union studies for university professors. It can only be held by one professor, who must provide the minimum of 90 teaching hours per academic year over a period of three consecutive years. In addition the Chair must carry out at least one additional activity per academic year.

Jean Monnet Modules

A Jean Monnet Module is a short teaching programme (or course) in the field of European Union studies at a higher education institution. Each Module has a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year and must focus on one particular discipline in European studies or be multidisciplinary requiring the academic input of several professors and experts.

The aim of the modules is to promote research and teaching experience among young researchers, scholars and practitioners in EU issues, foster the publication and dissemination of academic research, create interest in the EU, foster the introduction of an EU angle mainly into non EU related studies and deliver tailor-made courses on specific EU issues relevant for graduates in their professional life.
